HOW TO MAKE THE FIRST IMPRESSION

First of all, we should create a friendly atmosphere by smiling. I think this technique is simple. There is nothing you can do that will endear you more when first meeting a person than to smile. A sincere smile will come from a person who is relaxed and happy. If you are not entirely happy but you can still soften face, which will help create a good impression.

Then, it is the eye-contact. Your eyes communicate a lot about your emotional state. Your pupils will open and close depending on external light and internal emotion. If you like someone, your pupils will dilate. Some people wear eye makeup to make their pupils look large. If you focus on people’ eyes, you will indicate your interest in them and what they are saying. However, if you look away, you seem to be uninterested.
Greeting is another technique you must have to make an impression. When people ask how you are…, tell them how you would like to be unless you are feeling great. They don’t really want to know that you are overworked or ill. Let’s imagine the impression we will make if we tell people that we are in a bad mood. Also, the hand shake very often goes with the greeting. The rules are simple. You should offer your hand first then look into your partner’s eyes and smile. A proper handshake has four ingredients: pressure, pumps, eye contact, and verbal message. If done properly, a handshake gives the impression of strength and honesty, and if done improperly, it conveys weakness and dishonesty. We should remember that how we shake hands sends an important message about our character.

Last but not least, you should show yourself a good conversationalist by being a good listener. When you are conversing with someone, pay close attention to the speaker’s words while looking a t his or her face. Show your interest by smiling and/or nodding. Furthermore, don’t interrupt while someone is speaking, it is impolite to do so. If you have a good story, wait until the speaker is finished. Also, watch your body language; it can affect your communication whether you are the speaker or the listener. For instance, don’t sit slumped in a chair or make nervous hand and foot movements. Be relaxed and bend your body slightly forward to show interest in the person and the conversation.
